Breaking down the cellar door.

Top-Up Wines is redefining wine culture through Western Australia’s first public wine vote. We built a platform that turns wine criticism into an engaging conversation, inviting every enthusiast to join the discussion.

Our solution started with attitude – making it simple for wine lovers to discover, rate, and celebrate their favourites across WA’s wine regions. But we wanted the platform itself to feel like part of that cultural shift. Inspired by craft beer’s democratic spirit, we created an experience that brings the social energy of a tasting room online.

A striking 3D bottle animation welcomes visitors, setting the tone for what’s ahead. The AJAX-powered voting and seamless transitions transform browsers into active participants in WA’s wine story. Our smart filtering system makes exploration feel natural and engaging, perfect for finding that special bottle shared with friends or discovering unexpected gems in new regions.

“This was fun! The crew at Start immediately grasped the vibe and feel of Top Up Wines, but also the functionality that was required to make it work.

In short, they created a site that looked the part without compromising on purpose. The voting and searchability are seamless, and the back end is well set up for future growth.

The best part was, we had fun doing it. They pushed boundaries and challenged my ideas, while taking on feedback and adapting that into the work. If you love the site, pour yourself a glass of local vino and vote for your favourite West Australian drops at Top Up Wines.”

Top Up Wines

A platform that pours perfectly.

The website transforms traditional wine rankings into a living, breathing celebration of Australian wine culture. Smart data handling and a normalised database structure ensure peak performance during busy voting periods, while tracking favourite wines and regional standouts. Everything, spanning reporting tools to the Top-Up Top 100 list was crafted with scalability in mind. An approach that’s helping reshape how Western Australia talks about – and enjoys – its wines, for a while to come.
