Australian Financial Review BOSS’s Most Innovative Companies has been ranking the nation’s most innovative organisations for almost 10 years. To complement this award, in 2019 the AFR launched the inaugural ‘Best Places to Work’ list.
Start have been working with the Australian Financial Review since 2018 to design, develop, update and maintain the sites for both of these prestigious awards.
Year on year since launching the first sites for AFR there has been huge increase in traffic and entries to the list, with organisations such as Xero, SBS, Deloitte, Visa, ANZ Bank and Ford placing entries through the sites.
Our most recent Most Innovative Companies project was multi-staged with two launches. Start’s first project was to design and develop a landing page that encouraged individuals to pre-register their organisation for the competition plus to sign-up to receive tips to put their business best forward in their submission. After a month as entry opened, we launched part 2 – a full (albeit less than a dozen pages) site for the competition.
With our previous site design, Most Innovative Companies offered a more vibrant and funky feel. We approached this version with the intention to bring the site into 2020 and beyond. We updated the corporate and “safe” design to one focused on innovation, style and modernism.
A site’s font and typeface can make or break a website, and we wanted to find the perfect one for Most Innovative Companies. We tested a number of fonts before settling on Bely Display, the trendy san serif font that’s being used for headlines alongside the consistently popular, Lato. Shifting from the vibrant mix of blue and orange, we elevated the website’s aesthetics by making yellow and black its primary colours.
Start were amazing to work with, empathetic to our needs, easy going, attentive to detail and just all round genuinely awesome guys. We have had the Start Digital team develop a number of websites for us, and wouldn’t go anywhere else.
